I'm just about done with my carb conversion and the distributor just arrived this afternoon. It's a HEI vacuum advance unit. Someone point me in the right direction as to which way the vacuum canister faces when installing the dizzy. I know the rotor needs to point at #1 cyl at TDC. Please advise :)

Thanks,
Bob

If I remember right, on my '84 the nipple was pointing between the center of the radiator and the right headlight. There wasn't alot of room between the thermostat housing and the (I think) A/C compressor to move it.

The nipple should be pointing just to the right of the top water pump bolt. Here's a pic of mine for a reference.

Hey Andy, are you running an electric fan with the stock alt? If so, how does it work out?

Yes, It is the stock alt. so far its been working out pretty good. I hardly drive the car though. Its a Mr. Gasket 16" if I remeber right and I have had it for about 3 years. I run it on a switch not a thermostat and it draws about 14 amps. This summer when it was 90+ degrees the car ran around 205 and thats with a stock thermostat. So far so good.:bigthumb
