Well finally I am behind the wheel of a ford again, I picked up a 87 thunderbird turbocoupe. Anyone have any ideas as far as getting a little more boost, or any other fun stuff I could do? This is my first boosted car and I love it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Chris

$2 at your local pet store will yield more boost...at least that was the way to do it when I had my 88. it may not be the best way but its cheap and effective. Is it a 5spd or auto? Where are the pics?

there are several articles on how to build a home made boost controller. I had my SVO at around 20psi and it was real fun!

You can make a controller from parts at Home Depot. Cost is about 10 bucks. I tried the dealio from the pet store and it didnt work.

Also, dont push it much past 16 psi. The IHI turbo wont do anything beyond that point other than overheat the air charge.

yup at 16 or 17psi that IHI is weazing pretty bad. You could find a T3 off an earlier tbird, Mustang, or Merkur that would get you a little more boost.

you reading all this stuff chris? :bigthumb
a friend of mine had mentioned that if Chris had took off the factory air box the turbo would be louder, correct? and if so... what to replace it with? besides buyin a direct fit cold air unit...

Get yourself a Gillis boostvalve...it's what the do it yourself valve was modeled after but it's done right. I put one on my Merkur and it's a pretty nice reliable setup. I'm at 16psi until i get it intercooled.

I've got a T3 and E6 manifold (the better of the stock manifolds). I hadn't planned on selling them but if you're interested they won't cost you much...

Thanks, I think I am going to need all the help I can get on this thing. Since I dont have a garage I will be doing most of the work at friends houses and I may need a hand to finish quickly. I really do like this car and I really hope I can learn to hang on to this car for a while.
