Need a set of heads checked and cleaned, where to go?

Can anyone recomend a good local shop to check and clean a set of aluminum heads?:evilgrin: There is a little bit of "ring" pitting as the guy calls it, around one of the combustion chambers that I need to have checked out, and they need cleaned up.

I'd have a "cleanup" mill done to the heads...they only take ~.005" off them usually. That also makes sure the head surface is flat.
I had my AFR's checked out by BES. You may also want to call Ellison Engine service in elmwood place.

How much will that affect compression and ptv clearance?

It will affect it some...but usually not enough to worry about unless your already running tight clearances. Just tell Ed when you fill out your cam info sheet. What heads are those by the way? It looks like to me that something broke and bounced around that cylinder to put all those nicks in the chamber.

TFS Twisted Wedge. A ring broke in that cylinder and thats what caused the nicks.

I spoke with the guy on the phone, and he said he took them to two local machine shops, as well as the trick flow booth at the Bowling Green NMRA, and all three said the heads were fine, because the nicks aren't around the ring circle.

I wouldn't be worried about the head surface sealing up the head gasket well....but I would be worried about those nicks in the combustion chamber causing hot spots (detonation). I'd make the trip out to BES and have them look at them. They can do wonders with damaged heads.
