I've got a friend, we'll call him "that Chevy guy next door" who seems to think that to run 11s you need to be pushing 400hp. I know one of the classes is like True Street or something where they only run production Ford parts and run deep in the 11s and they're only making around 300 at the wheels...can anyone show me where to find details on this so i can educate him?

Are you talking about NMRA Factory Stock?

There's not a lot of "Factory Stock" in a FS car, and the front running cars are making quite a bit more than 300hp.

You can go 11s on 300hp, but you've got to be very light.

There was a car in one of the mags, i believe it was an editor's car that was running 11.90s with exactly 300hp at the wheels...if i didn't have so many mags to dig through and find the article i would find it. The car weighed something like 2800lbs without the driver, so it wasn't crazy light...and it had ported GT40 heads and was carbed. It was a 4 eye hatch back and there was a pic of it launching a good 4 foot high wheelie. I think it centered around suspension but it talked about how using the power you're making is the key to getting good times. That sound familiar?

Our car weighing in at 3100 lbs ran 10.9's to 10'8s and here's the dyno graph to show the RWTQ and RWHp to show it's a 300 hp car.

Mods were glass deck lid, hood and scoop. factory seats and carpet removed. Light weight carpet installed. Factory wiring removed and battery relocated to the trunk.

Thoes numbers will be a little higher on a Dynojet -VS- a Mustang Dyno.
Great times none the less! I like the TQ numbers.

I went an 11.90 at 99.xx mph (on the brakes) with 288 rwhp. That was my old coupe that weighed about 3050 with me in it. The best mph it ever made was 114 on an earlier pass that day.

I don't guess you're talking about Evan Smith's faux '93 Cobra he races in NHRA Super Stock? The car runs a Kuntz (?) 302 with the GT40 setup and has been in the tens.

I thought that was the car but i'm almost positive it's an old '84 GT. I know Evan's car is super quick too.

OK, i found the article last night, it's in the June '06 MM+FF called VALUE-MINDED MUSTANG and they said it's an update on their project pro tree Mustang. It says it was an '83 Turbo 2.3 car converted into an '85 5.0 car. They eventually ran 11.94 @ 109mph, with a total weight of 3,030lbs with the driver. I guess there's guys going faster than that now, but it says they estimate by the cars weight and MPH that it makes about 310hp at the flywheel.

My 97 GT ran 11.94 @111 last fall with a dyno verified 266 hp to the tires of about 300 at the flywheel. 2900 lbs with me in it. It's all about makeing the best of what you have.:bigthumb
