Rude awakening! The joys of living in the woods!

Ahh the joys of living in a wooded area! Last night at around 01:10 I was woke up by a couple of loud booms/crashes. I didn't know what to think at first... was someone breaking in? was there a crash down on the street? So, first thing I did was make sure the baby was alright. From there I went downstairs... calmed down a bit and mom and I found this in the backyard...

Luckily noone was hurt... and as of right now there is no visible water damage inside the house. We are currently waiting on the insurance adjuster and the roofing company.

Huge pics there. Could use some shrinking. Thank goodness no one was hurt. Looks like some damage there. Hope everything works out.

That would be awesome Greg, if you have the time. The tree is on the ground so there is no rush. The guy was just here to look at it and tarp it. Said damage to the top roof (the dormer) was minimal, gutter and some shingles. The big damage is where it took off that corner to the lower roof. He said it is a lot worse than it looks from the ground. Apparently some rafters are broken and need to be replaced along with "boards", gutters, shingles, etc. Thank heaven for insurance! However, I won't be buying those new tires for the 250 now that I have to pay the deductible. NO wind or stroms out here last night, tree just uprooted.

What were the chances that Parker was NOT in his bed at that time last night? His bed is right in that corner. He had woken up earlier and Craig had him in his room at the time. Guess Grandpa' was looking down on the little guy!

I was always afraid that would happen to our house, we had those huge pine limbs stretching out over the house, when the wind blew, you could hear them scraping the side and roof of the house. Kevin Schaber and Matt Johnson took care of that problem though. ;) Schaber is good with the chain saw!

Good to hear everyone is ok. :bigthumb Just seeing that makes me realize that I need to get the tree at the corner of our house taken down. It will be tricky as it is about 5 feet from the house at the corner where the power line comes in. Should be interesting.;)

Thanks to everyone. My insurance has contracted with a company called Professional Properties. They seem like real nice guys. Told me I didn't have to do anything, they would take care of all of it. Greg Siebert has already been by to look at the tree, he said he will saw it up. He heats with wood, so we will get that loaded and delivered to his house. Craig told him he could cut down as much as he wants. That whole side of the house is heavily wooded. My insurance agent gently suggested I get someone in here with a chain saw and remove a few more trees before this happens again. Twice in 18 years is too much for him!! We will get that B-ball goal to the county dump this weekend. Other than that, I should be in good shape.

Now if someone would just make those pictures a little smaller...haha

I really do appreciate all the nice words and offers of help. It's good to know there are such caring people out there. That's what SBZ is all about!

I want to give a HUGE thanks to Mr Greg Seibert for coming over on Friday and cutting up this tree for us! It was a big deal for us to have it moved! Now the contractors will have a little more room to actually fix the house (hopefully this week).
