View Full Version : Are there any "back roads" to bypass I-75/71N?

During the week when I go to work, if I have to be there at 6am or 7am, traffic isn't too bad. If I have to be there between 8am-9am, traffic sucks. It takes between 45-60 minutes to drive 18 miles. The main problem area is around exit 186 (Buttermilk, I think, or something similiar) to the Ohio River. It's even worse if there's a wreck. Of course I'm sure all of you know this seeing as we all live in the same area.
Is there a different route I could take to bypass all the traffic? I get onto I-75N at exit 181 (Burlington and Florence) in Kentucky and get off exit 6 in Ohio (Smith and Edwards). Like I said, the Ohio traffic isn't bad at all, just exit ~186 to the River.
Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.
Why not take 471 across the river instead? Or come up through Covington/Newport and take the Taylor-Southgate Bridge or the Suspension Bridge.
Or move from Kentucky. I would never live over there if I had to commute to this side of the river during rush hour.

Can I easily get onto 71 from 471? I looked at several apartments and this was the one that really caught my eye. When I mapquested my job and apartment, it was about 18 miles and figured no big deal. It's not real early in the morning but 7:30am+, it sucks.

471 turns into 71 north when you cross the river if you stay straight on it;)

From 71/75 north, take 275 as you pass the erlanger cinemas. Then take 471 into ohio. It turns into 71 north. It looks like it is longer but you bypass all the traffic. You are screwed if there is a wreck though.

If you go the 471 route stay out of the right hand lanes, it backs up big time for the people getting off on Ft. Washington Way.
