We (I) completed the catapult today. It took me about 3.5 hours. The nephews shot it about 200 times in 1.5 hours!
It will throw a small foam soccer ball about 60 ft. I'll make a couple of changes to improve the performance.
The spring came from a clay pigeon thrower. A stronger spring would certainly help. The cup on the arm is from an old weedeater. To get more tension, I improvised by using a 19mm socket as a spacer.
The pivot for the arm is a titanium axle that I made for a former racebike. (It was totalled at Road Atlanta)
It is 4 ft. long. The arm is 5 ft. long.
It's rough, but functional. The boys learned a lot today, including some safety tips and running a bandsaw.
