First of let say right up front , the engine is at 60,000 miles and it seems to run like a best ( My Sons 91 coupe ) Just for fun we are wanting to put my ZEX nitrous kit on it and maybe spray 50 hp jets at it.....How tough are these little engines.... I can tell you that it destroys the tires when you just nail it.... Fun little 4 banger for sure...
PS this is the8 spark plug engine 4 banger !!!:bigthumb so what do you think? how much is too much?

A 50 shot is the most i have ever heard on them. And it didn't last very long at all.

I don't know how serious you are about the car itself but you might wanna look into swapping in a turbo engine...even if you leave off the turbo. The bottom end is much stronger in those engines and could take more spray, though i can't say how much.

Iremember a issue of MMFF that they sprayed on with a 125 shot,it melted the ends of the plugs but did not hurt the little 4 banger

I can't say much about the non turbo engines but it seems that 4-500hp turbo 2.3s isn't all that uncommon and most of them are still on the stock bottom end. Inline engines are almost bullet proof as long as the crank and rods are up to the task.
