I'm proud to announce that Steve Gifford is the new all-time Factory Stock record holder with his 2V rocket. He busted off an incredible 11.32@118 in the 2nd round of qualifying.
That pass was a bit too quick for NMRAs taste so we were told to tear it down late Saturday night. They wanted the drivers head pulled off to check the head and also check the bore and stroke. A little after midnight we were found legal. Great. Now all we have to do is put it back together in the dark, get it running and be ready for first round in a few hours. Sounds easy enough.
We got back to our hotel about 4am, leaving the car not 100% done. We just couldn't work any longer. Got back to the track about 8:30 AM and finished her up. First round of eliminations (bye run) he ran a 11.39@118 to back up the record and make it official. He then proceeded to win his first event and kept his championship hopes alive. He and I also did an short interview with Bret Kepner from Inside Drag racing so be sure to check that out also.
It was quite a weekend. Rocky Mason, sponsored by Modular Depot was also number 1 qualifier in a 17 car Pure Street field.
There were many people who helped out this weekend and I'd like to thank all of them. Especially Matt Johnson and Tim Hixon for the help during the teardown.
We need to have another perfect weekend (set record, #1 qualifier, win event) at the Bowling Green event to get Steve the championship, but I think we can do it.
This is the first time in a long time that 3 people with 3 different combos have a shot at the championship going into the final in Bowling Green. Should make for some exciting racing!
The video of the record pass came out blurry but I think I have the 11.39 pass.
Congrats again to Steve, he did any outstanding job driving all weekend!
