I never got into racing because i never liked the idea of someone else's crash causing me to crash. My passion was always flatland but i was never any good. I rode a lot of dirt jumps and a lot of street. Back in the day i could bunny hop a rubbermaid trash can...i'd be lucky to get my fat ass off the ground these days

I feel your pain! I never was really good but I loved it so much. It was nice to get out of the house from what I thought was stress then and go for a ride back on our old trails. I just bought a bike not to long ago and I am slowly getting back into riding and let me tell you it hurts way more than it used. To be 16 again.....

Man i lived to ride...seriously. I didn't much care about anything else in life but my bike and riding. I swear if i had the exposure that kids have these days to skate parks and training camps like Woodward, i'd have been a pro no doubt. We did some gnarly stuff when we were kids and pretty much everything was made up because we just had nobody to look up to...back then all you had was BMX Plus and that's if you had a way to get from Mt. Orab to Eastgate to buy it since nobody locally sold it.
I remember once we wanted a half pipe so bad...we actually dug one out of the side of a dirt hill. It didn't end up being much of a half pipe but it was a badass jump! You could hit it full speed and it would just kick you straight up and you'd land on top of the hill.
I still have two bikes (well one bike, another frame and a box of parts). I've got a Haro Dave Mirra Pro and i had all the parts swapped over onto an S+M Dirtbike Next Generation frame, but i out grew that frame so i swapped everything back over to the Haro. Bikes now are stronger and lighter than they ever were when we were kids too....back then if you wanted strength, it came with about 45lbs worth of chromoly. Now you can get a full built street/dirt bike that weighs 25lbs and will take just as much abuse.

Man that brings back memories of why I walk with a limp. Where the clips of trying to jump the gate? I loved watching people do that.
My favorite bike was my Cycle Craft Pro XXL custom, redline crank, bulles eye hubs, uni seat, Dk stem and Robinson Racing bars. That bike was light,
Bunny hopping onto picnic tables was a breeze.

See i was always too big to ride anything that light. I had a Hawk Racing aluminum frame once and i snapped top tube off the head tube landing a bunny hop. Then way back before that i had an SE PK Ripper and broke the seat stays on that. Then another light bike i had was a Mongoose Expert Pro...wasn't a very expensive bike but i had a ton of parts on it and it was really light...but it was all chromoly so it held up really good...that's the bike i could clear a trash can with.

I was the exact same kid man!
From five years old on up, I was on a bicycle every day. I remember watching RAD on beta every day and running to the mail box to get my new copy of BMX Plus. I grew up in a sub-division that was being built all through my youth and it made for some of the best riding dirt you could ever think of! There were about a dozen kids on bikes out every day and the builders would make us courses and massive jumps with the bulldozers and back hoes on the empty lots. I remember guys would come from miles around to ride our jumps.
I would work my butt off on summer jobs to afford the latest GT every year.
My favorite was my Dyno Team Slammer. It was a heavy ass freestyle bike and probably too big for a kid my size, but it was the best looking and most expensive bike on the block.:D
Ahhh, the good old days.
Id like to have another bike.

I would like to ride down town but my fat ass can barley get off the ground plus I am riding on like an 89 Diamond back that I just threw together from cheap parts to have something to ride. I would be willing to ride downtown if you guys didn't make to much fun of my bike. I think it sounds like a good idea.
Here is a crash that looks like it hurt!

Hell yeah man, back in the day it was tough to be a Slammer unless you bought a Condor or something like that. I never had that kind of cash though so i rode an older GT Performer for YEARS, although i also had two vintage Mongoose Decade Pro's and a Californian, plus a whole slew of other classics. PK Rippers, Haro Masters, i even had a super old school Hutch  Back then all i wanted was a GT Pro Freestyle Tour but i never had the $$$ for it.
I remember those trails behind Krogers, Brian(87brookstang) my brother ,and myself used to go to those trails, We were more the racer type of folk....Those jumps scared the shit out of me .. Matt pohlkamp is still riding Pro AA and he currently rides for Kuwahara....

Man i have got NO skills anymore....i've gained a ton of weight since then and i hardly have any endurance at all. I'm technically not supposed to even set foot on a bike after my surgery so no rails or anything like that for me, but i've been wanting to get at least a nice light BMX style bike for some dirt jumps and such...i can still bunny hop pretty damn high and i imagine with a bit of practice i could clear the trash cans again :cool2:
Man this crap really brings me back and i swear if i could go back to any time in my life that would be it! Not even cars have given me that feeling of being in my early teens riding my bike. If you really wanna get sick to your stomach, just go on eBay and look up any old bike you ever had. Last i checked there were a couple Slammers on there and a Californian and a bunch of mint Performer GTs. Right now all that stuff is jumping in price as guys like us remember the old days and it's just like car guys buying up the cars they had when they were kids.
