Here's the video of me winning the '00 NMRA St. Louis burnout contest. I had no clue what I was doing...just wired the linelock to stay on...Kevin said to start in 2nd..then powershift it to 3rd..then 4th..then hold the rpms just under my shift point (~5200). So I did it.

I remember yours from Corral Day of 05 I think. I was 20 to 30 feet away and covered in rubber after you where done. That was the smokiest burn out I think I have ever seen:bigthumb:bigthumb

I have a really stupid newbie question to ask since I'm not all that into drag racing. When most cars on slicks at the track clean off and heat up their tires, what gear are they doing it in? Which gear is usually optimum? I assume you can overheat the tires, so I'd think that you'd only want to spin them as fast as necessary to get the tire carcass hot and clean off the gravel/sand. Also, when you do a burnout in a gear other than 4th, do you risk breaking driveline parts when you drop the clutch to get them spinning in such a high gear?

If it's a stick car with some decent gears (3.55 or higher)...a 3-5 second 2nd gear burnout is all that is needed to clean and heat sticky tires (slicks/dr's). Yes....burnouts in 4th gear are MUCH harder on stuff....well..it's basically getting the tires moving and getting into 4th while standing still that's hard on the driveline. If I remember right my car had 4.30's in it then...4th gear @ 5K+rpms=~105+mph at the wheels.

I run mine up to 5k in First click it to second till I like the smoke show! Oh yea my glide in 2nd gear is 1-1 makes for easy burnouts.
