Talawanda graduate killed in Iraq

BUTLER COUNTY — A Butler County soldier died Thursday in Iraq, according to Local 12 WKRC.

Friends say Anthony Vinnedge, 24, of Okeana was serving his second tour of duty. Vinnedge graduated from Talawanda High School in 2001 and attended Miami University, according to Local 12.

The U.S. Military has not released information on what led up to Vinnedge's death.

Okeana is about 15 miles south of Oxford.

Vinnedge is the 10th soldier with Butler County roots to be killed in military action since 9/11.

• Army 1st Sgt. Ricky L. McGinnis, 42, of Fort Hood, Texas, was killed Oct. 26, 2006, in Iraq by a roadside bomb while on patrol. He was a Hamilton High School graduate.

• Marine Lance Cpl. Michael J. Cifuentes, 25, of Oxford was one of 14 Marine reservists killed Aug. 3, 2005, when their armored vehicle struck a roadside bomb in western Iraq.

• Marine Lance Cpl. Timothy Michael Bell Jr., 22, a Lakota East High School graduate, was among 14 Marines killed Aug. 3, 2005, in a roadside bombing in western Iraq.

• Army Pfc. Tim Hines Jr., 21, of Fairfield died July 14, 2005, at a Washington hospital of injuries from a bomb detonated while he was in a convoy traveling in Baghdad.

• Marine Lance Cpl. Taylor Prazynski, 20, of Fairfield died May 9, 2005, after suffering shrapnel wounds in an explosion during combat in the Al Anbar province of Iraq.

• Army Pfc. James H. Miller IV, 22, of West Chester Twp. died Jan. 30, 2005, in an explosion while he was guarding a polling place in Ramadi for Iraq's elections.

• Army Sgt. Charles "Chuck" J. Webb, 22, of Hamilton died Nov. 3, 2004, when he was struck by shrapnel from a bomb in Iraq.

• Army Pfc. Marlin Rockhold, 23, of Hamilton, died May 8, 2003, after he was shot by a sniper while directing traffic at a bridge in Baghdad.

• Army Sgt. Benjamin Moore of Hamilton was fatally shot Feb. 21, 2003, during an M-16 night-fire training exercise at Fort Hood, Texas.

That is so sad, I heard about it last night on the news. My prayers are with his family.

The positive is that it sounds like he died in honor doing what he loved to do! It's so sad, he was a baby.
