On my list of favorite cars is '68-'69 and '70-'71 Torinos (my first car was a '68 Fairlane.) Well, a friend of mine came across a few old cars for very cheap...one being a '70 Torino. He is not a Ford guy (He's a die hard 'Vette guy) and tried to explain the car to me. He said it had a "big" looking engine w/ a 4 barrel (stock intake), and a 4 spd. What do you think this might be? I'm thinking a 4bbl Cleveland engine? Was this a combo in '70?

I am thinking of getting this as a 2nd project, even though I cann't afford it:eek: Problem is that I might have to buy the car without ever seeing it. The good news is that I will pay scrap value for it (<$200.) Basically I just want a fun beater...I don't give a shit what it looks like.

could be 429 super cobra jet could be a regular 429 or 302 351 c are the factory ones but you never know what someone has stuffed in there if its a big block its worth getting for the 4 spd stuff alone! if you dont buy id like to be next in line!!!

You could part it out and easily gross $1000+ !! EASILY!

I've dealt ALOT in the past classic mustang/cougar/old ford parts so I know what I'm saying! :bigthumb

The only production 4 barrel carb engines offered in the 1970 Torino were the 351c , and 3 versions of the 429 (Thunder-Jet, Cobra-Jet, and the Super Cobra-Jet). The 429SCJ would have been part of the Drag-Pack option group. The fifth number of the VIN will tell you what engine you have.

L: 250 I-6
F: 302-2v
H: 351-2v (Cleveland or Windsor, both were offered in that model year and had same HP rating)
M: 351-4v (Cleveland)
N: 429-4v Thunder Jet
C: 429-4v Cobra Jet
J: 429_4v Super Cobra Jet

The 4 speed and Cruise-O-Matic transmissions were available options. The 3 speed manual was standard.
