One of my best friends has a choc. lab and it is the best dog. That crazy dog is obsessed with water/swimming. She will bust ice in the winter time to get in the water.
Congratulations

:agree: , I have a 10yo black lab, and recently acquired a 4 month yellow and an 8 month chocolate lab. They are great dogs. My 3yo lil girl has a blast with them in the pond and creek. Gus is a good looking pup:bigthumb

Thats a good looking pup. If you really want a dog to be your best friend take them everywhere with you that you possibly can. Have to start early. I have a black lab now that just isn't cooperational. My golden I had for 9 years went everywhere with me and obeyed every command in public. Better stock up on the dog food that ones gonna be an eater. I suggest the high protein stuff from tractor supply. Best deal I have found and has always treated my labs well.

Great looking dog, I have a 3 1/2 yr old black lab,Hershey, He's my buddy. They love to learn and are easy to train, the basics sit, stay, laydown, rollover. Hershey had those figured out by 6 mos. They definetely love water(except baths).
We kept Hershey in a cage at night and while at work for about a yr, then only while we were at work for about another 6 mos. He now has the run of the place all day/night and does great. He has'nt had a accident in the house for over 3 yrs.
I would suggest getting a "flying squirrel" from the pet store. It's a square canvas frisbee(orange/blue), by far my dogs fav. toy, and he routinely catches it out of the air. Also get plenty of chew toys, they will definetely chew stuff up given the chance(as puppy's). It would be worthwhile picking up a book on labs to learn about their tendencies, charateristics.
Great dog, you'll love him, keep the pics coming over the next couple of months.

All some really good points... Gus will be the 4th Lab that we have had and as of now he seems like the most calm of them all (given he is still a little young). I think I have almost bought Pets Mart out of all their Chew toys and this boy is definatly an eater! He will devour food as soon as you put it out.
He seems to have already mastered having to go outside to use the potty and well now comes the fun part of training him!!! I already have him where he can walk beside me without a leash when taking him for a walk... this little guy is a smart one!
I'll keep ya guys posted with pictures of how he grows, casue by the looks of it he is gonna be a big ol' boy

Aw! So cute! I love dogs!! (obviously since I have 2!) Gus is adorable, you'll have to bring him over to play with Shelby, I'm sure they'd get along great. Have fun with him, he looks like he's a fun loving kind of guy.
Joe, get Maggy a dog! I'm sure Nathan would love having a pup to grow up with.
