SWEET GT

After about 6 years, the inside of my 01 (various parts like the bezel/pull "cup" around the switches shifter console bezel and around the radio/ac...are showing slight signs of wear.. I also want to jazz up the interior since ive pretty much worked on every aspect of the car except the interior (minus MGW pieces). the idea of painting all the standard pieces that most mustang guys do, crossed my mind.
I noticed that on my 01...these trim panels seem to have an almost rubberized color coating...that is starting to wear off, and you can see black through them..how do I remove this coating..or is just a paint? I imagine sanding will work, but Im not sure.
I am thinking of using dupli-color paint in true blue to match the outside of the car.
I cant think of any other idea other than painting.(I havent seen any good quality carbon fiber or other matieral replacement peices, besides dash laminate kits..which I dont want)..so I figured I ask you guys for some advice.
