the rear axle of rust? I got a Ford 8" off a guy. It's partially stripped down (parts wise), but it is pretty rusty.

I figure I'll need to sand blast it, but I don't have a compressor. She isn't going to be a show car, but I'd like to get it cleaned up some. Any suggestions on good durable paint, too? Probably just something black.

wire brush and some rust prohibit black. or take it somewhere and let them acid dip it for ya. you could also get it powdercoated if you got the funds.

Without a compressor I would do a wire wheel in an electric/cordless drill. Once you get flaky chunks off you could just do strips of emery cloth to get the tubes real good and is not the easiest but actully worked on my center chunk fairly well. It is just a pain to get into the small nooks that way. Before you paint I wiped mine down 3 or 4 times with prep all stuff to get the rust dust and grease off of it. Once you get it real clean spray with you favorite paint.

Cover it up :D :

Used this on mine and it turned out awesome. A little expensive, but much cheaper than sandblasting/dipping/powdercoating.

Well, I ended up using my sander and some wire wheels.

Those brown ones from AutoZone are a joke for my rust, but the black ones seem to do ok.

I got the rear end shot once. :) Now to remove the old 6.75"...

It doesn't look like the 8" was a spring over setup.

(Yes, I missed a spot. I need to get some more degreaser for that corner. Wire wheel was just "smoothing it out".
