Ok, I have a banging noise. At first I thought it was the water pump bearing going out. So to be sure I pulled the belt of the car and ran it... Nice and quiet... SO then I replaced the water pump.... Same noise !! Remove belt all ok... Sounds like timing chain or water pump area. I bypassed the power steering pump and it still has the noise click click click ...real loud.... !!! I gave up for the night... I'm hoping for something easy... For the record it runs great and is hauling ass. !! Any Ideas...?
Time to go buy a Grandnational !!!

Is there a smog pump or an elim pulley on it. I have seen a bunch of those go out. The next idea is the alt. bearing.

I had what sounds like the same problem, turned out to be the belt tensioner.

I was talking to the head Tech at the dealership I work at and he told me that Ford has put out a recall on there "Piston Return Springs" in there 302's from 87-93. I would start there:)
Really I hope you figure it out there big guy:bigthumb
