View Full Version : May 15th - NO GAS

Received this in an email. Figured it wouldn't hurt!

NO GAS ... on May 15th 2007.

Don't pump gas on may 15th.

In April, 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th, 2007 all internet users are asked to not go to a gas station and pump gas in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the middle eastern oil industry for at least one day.

i'll be doing that too :bigthumb

ya know if everyone only put 5-10 dollars in their vehicle every time they went to the station, both the gas companies and the stations would be feeling the pain...

it will do nothing. you will just get gas the day before, or after the 15. try car pooling more and driving less.

i was thinkin the same thing but who cares, worth a shot, i normally spread out my gas ups, 5 here 10 here, maybe 15, lately 20 and 25 tho  keeps me maintained for a few days

i rarely have a full tank... only when i go drag racing.... only cuz it takes half of it to get there....

C'mon guys/gals... you know this will never work. Even if you could get EVERYONE in the country not to by gas on that particular day, all those people will still purchase it the day before or after or some other time that week. We all need it to get to work, etc... so they can pretty much charge whatever they want because we will always have to buy it. If only our wages went up like the price of gasoline.

The big oil companies probably already know about this anyway, so they'll just jack the price up 50 cents on the 16th.

I hate all the chain emails and MySpace bulletins I see about this. IT WILL NEVER WORK!!!

What gets me is that it is not a competetive market anymore. Theres no Mom and Pop places on every corner who have to undercut the next guy to get the bussiness. Damn near every gas station is owned by the big oil companies. They are allways a penny apart or dead even. It pisses me off to see any raise in pay that I get go right in the tank. Boycotting them will never work. I drive as little as possible and do my best to get errands done going to or from work.

if anytihng it would hurt the average guy. No gas on the 15th = no demand for a product / excessive supply ==> lower price on the 15th.

then the next day everybody who would have filled up on the 15th fills up and so do those who would have bought on the 16th = 2x the demand that they see on a normal day ==> re f'in diculously high prices for the day.

to really lower prices we need to either increase the supply (find more oil, less refinery shutdowns) or decrease demand (carpool, drive less, drive a more fuel efficient car, ect...)

I got an email that said something about just not buying gas from the big two. I think it was citgo and shell??? That is always a possiblity. They would start hurting and lower the prices and then everyone else would have to follow. Yeah it wouldn't be forever but who cares if we can get it down even temporarily?

I've yet to pay 3.000 or more for gasoline.........yet!

Sadly, Speedway (Ashland Oil) a KY company is the first to jump the prices.

Right now, cheapest gas I've seen is Speedway at KY 17 @ Highland Pike @ 2.999 a gallon........

If anyone lives near amelia. the amelia krogers had gas all weekend at 2.94 and you could still do the 10 cents off... so we got gas for 2.84 yesterday!

If you want to cause a stir in the market - send out a chain email, pick a date and tell EVERYONE to NOT DRIVE ANYWHERE one weekend (2 days). No cars, no lawnmowers, no racing, no nothing. To be honest it wouldn't hurt to have a quiet day with the family like that.

In the mean time - I'm doing my part by not mowing my lawn!

So did a few other people in my neighborhood. Two even got notices from the city. I almost lost my Boxer in the mess they called a yard.

BTW, that chain letter has been around since the beginning of the internet. Which means Al Gore started it. ;) He just wants more fuel to heat his pool.

How about the whole country just go on strike for a day? Nobody goes to work, nothing gets done...think that would get someones attention? Not buying for one day is never going to solve anything because like mentioned already, it's going to be bought the day before or after.

OK, so it wont work. Now that I have time to think about it I see this. I was on a 'break' from doing crappy housework. It was in my email and I figured why not post it. They don't have to read it. Blame it on the pine-sol, bleach, windex etc fumes I was under the influence of. But wouldn't it be nice if the 'people' could take a stand and the government listen?! Yeah, I know, I'm dreamin!!
I'll hit myself with the carp.....:HYF:

That's pretty much standard behavior in countries like France and Italy. Various worker groups will go on strike and pretty much bring the country to a standstill. I was in Italy about eight years ago when the transportation workers went on strike...we were stuck in Venice for an extra two days (what a tragedy ;) ). Say what you will about socialist/democratic nations, but that does work to get change done.
