I still have my 88 vert. If you need anything for the top mechanisms..let me know. As far as I know mine works well. It was kept in a garage and I have had it under a tarp since I got it so it all should be rust free.

Hell if you are going that far I would go ahead and drop the rear end so you can paint it right and then go ahead and put some upper and lower control arms on it. You can always find a good deal on some used ones.

If the bolts are old, make sure to soak them in some PB blaster first, for about 10 minutes. Then stick the torx 50 in there on an extension, and give the extension a good hit with a hammer. That little shock will usually be enough to "free" the bolt. I have broken MANY torx 50's, and this usually solves that problem, especially for the ones that run down into the floor and were subject to weather.
I got mine at sears for around $6.xx.

I had thought about doing some black accents in my interior and leaving most of it blue...like getting black seats and a black dash pad and black carpet...i dunno. If i knew absolutely that the black wouldn't chip or scratch off i might dye mine black, but my interior is just so nice (aside from the dash pad and carpet) that if it came out shitty i'd probably cry.

whats the closest junk yard to you? check them and see if they have a four eye coupe...grab the panels you want to paint..that way if they don't come out how you want them your just out like $50 a the most..
i was a little worried mine would look like shit...but i just did light coats and it cam out great...my dad hasent made his mind up iof he like's it or not becasue he is not a fan of black interior...her likes his grey...but my mom think's it looks 100% better...my buddys seem too like it too...just take your time if you do it!

after we got back from trails we started on sanding grinding ect... and the rust is a little worse then i though on the passenger fender lip...dont know weather i want to fix this fender lip or just cut it out and weld a new one in ..i think it would be easier to plasma it out and weld a new one in...save alot of time...
what you guys think? what you think would be better?

you are exactly right about the dust caps... didnt even think about that, my bad... and yes... the axle swap truley is THAT easy... and hey... while they are out... now would be a great time for axle bearings;)
Well since you already have the waffle pony's... i say you make em stand out a lil... paint em... maybe like the same Anthracite/gun metal color as Bullitts... tape up the pony so that it stays bright silver...that would be sweet!
dont got them yet...going to pick them up sometime in the next few weeks...he told me he is in no hurry to sell and will hold them for me...
cool guy imo...

i have a little bit of a deli ma...went and got tail pipes put on today...drove the car home..(80 mile drive) and as i was entering Hilliard it started whistling at the passengers side collector.. its lose again and the stud snapped before so i just use d nut and bolt to pull them together hence the first reason it leaked...so can i put in new header studs without removing the header? i have big hands so its hard enough to get my hands up there as it is....would it be easier to just remove the header?
this is for the passenger side...the stud closest to the block snapped.... by the starter

11-23-2007, 07:03 PM
Just take the header of. It would make it so much easier getting a broken stud out and it doesnt take that long. If you have acess to a torch it would make getting the stud out alot easier to.

Are you buying headers because you want them for performance or are you buying them to fix your exhaust leak?

a guy local to me has some stock headers im gonna pick up. i found a small crack on mine but its not the reason its making that noise ( i think ) and my studs are broken and stripped on one side. so these ones have perfect studs...
but if your wondering if i have fixed the leak no i cant find it, i checked the back of the heads. sprayed it down with a soap and water and started it, nonthing bubbled or anything like that. the pipe going from the smog pump the mid pipe was fine.

I forgot to take a pic of my headers to show you. Take a pic of the passenger side header and post it up, and I will circle where the leak is coming from. Its not at the back of the heads, the check valve on the egr tube broke.

Ok, here ya go. What I'm pointing at is where I capped off the open valve:
http://img2.putfile.com/main/12/33622064592.jpg
Here is a bigger pic of the whole valve and egr tube:
http://img2.putfile.com/main/12/33622064561.jpg
What actually usually happens, and what I'm willing to bet happened in your case, is that the valve actually broke back where it meets up with the silver fitting:
http://img2.putfile.com/main/12/33622110813.jpg
You will probably need to get a new EGR tube, or you will need to remove it completely and plug the back of your heads.
What you can do is when the car is running, just put your hand over the part I have circled and either feel or actually grab the tube to see if you have air coming out, and see if the sound changes when you grab it and cover it up.
Hope that helps.

Get rid of that egr bar behind the heads. If you take them off the back of the head, and cut the tubes off. you can flip them over and use some high temp rtv and block that crap. and it cleans up the engine bay a little.
