My motor is about ready to fire up. Right now the car is without a transmission and I was thinking about starting it up. It is a 28oz. balance. Will a stock flexplate work, or do I need a 28oz balance flywheel? Can doing this harm or hurt anything... Thanks.

If its a stock 28oz it will be fine but how are you going to start it without a tranny? Or are you going to bolt a bellhousing to it?

Yes, I was going to put a stock bellhousing on it. I know a 28oz flywheel wheel work, but are flexplates balanced 50 and 28oz. Quik Lx has a stock flexplate, I was wondering if it would work. I don't know anyone who has a extra flywheel (28oz) just laying around.

Terry, I think I have a 28 oz flexplate you can try. Its up to you to do the research and make sure tho. Gimme a call as time is running short if you want it anytime soon.

Only late model 302s are 50oz. The older 302s were 28oz, Im not sure of the cut off. I think that 82 was the start of the 50oz.
BTW It is probably not a good idea to start or run the engine without the mass of a flywheel or a flexplate with a torque converter bolted up to it.
It probably wont idle at all, but it sure will rev fast!
