Does anyone know where I can get a machinist ruler or something so I can measure my valve spring install height with the head on the car. I need something that will show at 1.850

You might be better off with a dial caliper - it all depends on how exact you want to be. For a quick check just use a regular measuring device for 1-7/8".
(1-7/8" = 1.875)
