What Size Block For My Next Long Term Build?

Over the next year or so I will be building a new short block.

The goal of the short block will to be

1) As indestructible as possible &
2) Be setup for a large turbo.


So, I would like the opinions of the Vets on here, what displacement is best or what stroker kit is optimal for my setup.

Money wont really be an issue as I will just take my time with the build and save for what I need.

So, what size block / stroker kit would you recommend and why.

To give any good advice, people are going to want to know many more details about your goals. Do you have a HP or torque goal, a 1/4 goal, road racing, etc. Turbo size, etc.

no replacement for displacement ... built my 331 4 years ago, i wished a thousand times i would have went with a 408 or bigger ...

Biggest problem I see with big CID turbo deals is keeping compression reasonable. Remember more stroke and bore= Higher compression. Lots of depends. If it were me I would build a 400+ Cid motor but keep it NA

You never did state your intentions with the car. If it is just for fun and not an everday driver I would still say go 500+ cubic inch big block. Stroker kits are approx $1500 and you can easily get 5-600hp w/ stock heads. Much more w/ aftermarket heads. Plus they are damn near indestructible.

All right well, 600+ hp sounds like a good number.

My question is, if I were to build a huge CID engine, what base block would I be using in order to buy after market heads? A 460?

Like a 289 and 302 the block dimensions of a 429 and 460 are the same. Either one would work just fine, plus if you look around they are pretty cheap to find.

600 at the Flywheel I would build a big 440-460 Aftermarket block windsor or a mild big block. Both could be build to make lots of power and be able to run on pump gas. My 408 is mild makes 600 at the flywheel. Runs 10.25's all day long shifting at 6500 with 28 degrees of timing.
