Well, as it turns out I am not getting laid off. At least not this time around. I've been in conservation mode for awhile now and decided to pick up a couple of things. You will begin to see a lot of progress in the coming weeks as the weather gets nicer.

I really like the MM manual brake conversion. Comes with a new pedal / arm that's adjustable. Pedal seems a little small but we'll see how it works out. I can always weld a larger platform onto the pedal if I need it down the road.

I've used the SEM in the past and this stuff is very comparable. Unfortunately nice new paint shows all the imperfections. I'm thinking about buying a can of build primer to address some scuffs in my cowl panel, lightly sand and then respray.

It looks damn good now and I'm not afraid to say it! LOL
We (he) installed the manual brake conversion and the new mastercylinder. It also looks sweet! Doing anything to the car is all of a sudden fun again, so I'm going to stay busy knocking stuff out. Tomorrow night I'm going to start taping off everything so I can paint the cage. Enough of that, here's some pics...

I want to give a big thanks to Greg for coming out last night, we worked on the wiring for several hrs. I was trying to cleanup the headlight harness since its not going to attach to the core support like it used to. What I did was measure out the length of the harness going to the passenger side and cut off that side and removed some extra length we didn't need. Then I snaked the remainder of the harness through the core support (its hollow if you've never looked) and then Greg soldered it all back together and shrink tubed it. Turned out pretty sweet. We were able to fit the harness to the car much better than it used to be. While he finished that portion up, I moved to the harness that runs to the back of the car and got it all in place.
Now I'm at the point where I need to eliminate a bunch of wiring from the dash harness that isn't going to be used anymore. Any of you guys familiar with the dash harness or have a schematic for it? Asside from the cluster, radio and trunk release, I don't think I really need the rest of it but I don't want to just start cutting.
Also got the proportioning vavle installed in cab and its pretty trick, so I'll have some updated pictures coming!

04-10-2009, 12:18 AM
When the interior is together this will look a lot better. If you look where the emergency brake used to be, I've got my Wilwood proportioning valve mounted in that spot. Makes it easy to reach over and make adjustments if I need more or less rear brakes.

OK guys, went out this morning and picked up my new stainless soft lines that go from the bulkheads to the calipers. There's a protective sleeve they put over them for extra abrasion resistance. You can get them in a couple of different colors, but I chose charcoal to keep them sort of low key. This should also help out with the brakes.
I put a stock 02' brake like next to them for comparisons sake.

Thanks guys, slowly gathering up the parts.
My motor plate is done, had to have a couple of -12's welded in place for the remote mount water pump. Its finished now and I'll be picking it up in the next day or 2. I believe Greg is coming back out to help me on Wed and we're going to drop the motor in place. Once the motor is in there, there will be all kinds of things I can do. I'll probably ask for some help when that time comes.

Recently I put up this picture
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o238/Rick88coupe/coupe%20pictures/P1000252.jpg
I'm putting it up again to point out the exhaust housing on the turbo.
Tonight I got a wild hair and decided to remove the casting flash from the ex housing. I started with a 60 grit flapper disc to removed the material and ended up going over to VictoryRay's place and using a hand held belt sander to even it out. That thing kicks ass! Anyway, this was the end result.

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o238/Rick88coupe/coupe%20pictures/P1000296.jpg
Then I used some BBQ paint that everyone raves about. I'm still up in the air on whether or not I'm going to have it coated with the rest of the hotside. The plan is to change it down the road anyway.

http://www.alcoholinjectionsystems.com/p102/Stage-2-Adjust.-Progressive-Trunk-Mount-Water-Methanol-Injection-System/product_info.html
I've been researching them off and on for about a yr. Read a few really good posts from Bob Kurgan and the success he was having on his customers cars, so I figured I could make it work. After talking to Rodney at AIS, he assured me we could set up a system that would give me better IAT's then I could get from an air to air setup with the added benefit of extra octane on 93 pump gas. After trying to fit an efficient enough intercooler under the LX nose we found out it just wasn't going to happen without doing some cutting on the new paint or literally cutting a section out of the marker lights. I think it was the excuse I needed to bite the bullet and do what I had been toying with all along.
Going with the custom theme that seems to have taken over, I'm going to inject directly into the box intake with a 3 nozzle setup for even distribution. Pictures to come in the next couple of days. :bigthumb

So when that is completely full, how much street driving and track time can you get before needing to refill?
It's boost referenced, so it's going to be directly proportionate to the amount of times I'm in boost. My thoughts are that I'll only be concerned about IAT's at full throttle, when it just starts to creep into boost under normal driving, it wont need any. I'll probably have it come on at 5 psi or so.

It's boost referenced, .... I'll probably have it come on at 5 psi or so.
So, is the amount injected proportional to boost? Or, does it only inject a perdetermined amount at a user specified boost level?

Sorry Rob, forgot to answer this. Once you set the boost pressure you want it to come on, then you select the pressure you want it to go 100% duty, it builds a ramp rate based off those 2 figures.
On a side note, the convertor will be here soon! :bigthumb

Haven't gotten much done aside from spending money. :(
I did speak with Lenny at Ultimate converters about my setup and the ball is rolling. I ordered my shifter which should be here tomorrow or Thursday. Gave my hot kit to Kenny for coating and test fit my seats (very tight) I didn't think they were going to go. I'm going to start fiddling with the wiring tonight after my daughter goes to bed. I'm dreading the wiring!
I did give the car its first bath after work tonight. It's purdy! :bigthumb:

Thanks fellas. Got the cowl panel mounted, sanded it down and put a couple coats of paint on it. I seem to be missing some nuts to hold the quarter glass in, so I'm going to see what I can find on my lunch break tomorrow to get that sorted out.. I want to have them sealed up and done tomorrow night. Little by little I guess.

Had the windshields pulled today so that I could finish painting the cage. Brian came out yesterday and we installed the door panels in the car and started putting the front end back on. I ordered a new set of factory style headlights, the whole deluxe kit actually and a few misc trim pieces that were broken. It should help make the front end look clean! Front end should be all back together mid week when the parts come in.

Nothing makes the car more complete than a new set of headlights!
On that subject, this is the first time I've ever replaced a set, does anyone know if the rubber trim piece around the headlight tucks in behind the parking lights and marker, or is it supposed to just cover the edge of them?

Well, took the back glass and quarter glass to the local tint place and had them done in 35% Thursday, in hind sight, I sort of wish I had gone 20%, but what'ya do? Had the windshield and rear glass installed the next day so all of that is complete. I'm ready to start with the rear seat delete and putting in the rear plastic panels next.
Slight change of plans for the car. Jason (the fabricator on this build) had a problem with his turbo, so I gave him mine so that he could get his car on the road and enjoy it. A friend of mine picked me up another exhaust housing from a S400 and I'm sealing off the open side where the compressor would go. The idea is to leave my turbo exhaust in place and break in the motor N/A. This is going to make it easier for me to get familiar with the tuning process and ensuring that I get good ring seal at the same time. All of the small issues will be worked out by then and I'll be ready to make some good power!

Have any pics of how this is going to work? If you seal of the turbo flange where the turbo would sit, how is the exhaust going to exit? This is basically the same thing I've been considering since no one makes a set of headers for high ports, dropped k member and a T-56 off the shelf.

The housing is going to bolt down just like the original, the downpipe will still v-band to it, but on the open side where it's flanged for the oil feed/drain and wheels, I'm having a plate welded there to seal it off. I'll have to rig up some sort of filter for the intake piping, but it should be pretty straightforward. I just didn't want to have to pull the exhaust off the car, bolt on my shorties and find an h-pipe.
One cool thing, is that if I ever loose the turbo, I'll have the dummy system to run N/A till I get it fixed. I'll get pics up when it's done.

Thanks man. Yes you need to cut the rearend down a bit to make it fit the 325 drag radial. Mine was cut 3/4" per side. In hind site, going 1.5" per side would have been ideal. Most guys doing this go between 1.5 and 2". At a minimum I would recommend 1". I have the 6.5" backspace wheels and it does tuck the tire, but could have been better. Someday down the road when I upgrade the internals, I'll have it cut down further, or sell this one and start over.

Only time will tell. I'm going to be working on the electrical system tonight. Fuel lines and coolant lines are in, just need picked up and put on.
