I am seriously looking at getting a SD powerstroke. With is the better engine...the 7.3 or 6.0?? I know that '03 was the last year for the 7.3 which was intermingled with some 6.0's. After my little sparkplug fiasco, I don't want this to take very long, thanks SBZ!!

Terry, any light you could shed on the subject would be very appreciated. Since you deal with these things all the time on the lot.

You want a 7.3 if you buy older than 2004. I have the 01 7.3 and love it. I think they worked out the problems with the 04 and newer 6.0's. Take a look around http://www.ford-trucks.com/ and http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbthreads/.

I found my Crew Cab long bed f350 4x4 by searching for keywork "divorce" in the autotrader. Got it for about 1/2 price.

When I worked at the dealer the last handfull of years the 7.3 was built they had most of the bugs worked out. My Dads 7.3 was a 2001 I think and it ran great My excursion is a 4x4 and it is alot heaver than his regular cab long bed 2wd but the amount of power that 7.3 has over my V10 is Crazy. The real early 7.3's had some problems and I got to see the first run of 6.0's they had some issues.

i have an 06 f-3250 with the 6.0 couldnt be happier. all the problems are ironed out and it will pull a motor home that high centered on a hill. against its will. this truck is just badass.

I basically search the classifieds/autotrader every day. It is the same story almost every time. Some guy has "x" amount of time to unload something or the wife gets it. It helps to have a good relationship with the lender. I called the bank on my way to buy it to let them know I would be in the next day to fill out loan papers.

I kind of hate to be a vulture, but somebody is gonna get this stuff...

Sorry to hijack you thread Carl!

The 7.3 PSD came out in 1994.5. From then until 1997 they were non intercooled. There were no diesels in 1998. 1999 they came back, with intercooler. Early 7.3 PSDs did not have problems... only 7.3 PSDs that had problems were the PMR motors (powdered metal rods) of late 2001-early 2003. This was only when you put more fuel to them and made 400+ horsepower. The 6.0 was introduced in 2003.25. The early motors here had a number of issues, including headgaskets. They seemed to have worked them out by the later days of the 6.0.

I just talked to Carl on the phone and gave him some pointers for looking at these used trucks. Hope all works out! Let me know if I can help anymore!

Does it "HAVE" to be a Ford?

they're both good engines, but the 6.0 had alot of trouble in the begining. because of that, i'd go with the 7.3

Thanks Craig for all the help on the phone today, you gave me a good idea of what to look at now.

Yes, HAS to be a Ford. I was raised Ford and will always drive one.

Craig...so what year trucks are you looking at? What is your price range? I just saw a F250 ext. cab 4x4 PSD for sale at work...looked somewhat newer so it's probably a 6.0...guys asking $24.5K for it. I can get more details for you if you want if I see it in the lot again.

Jeff, it's me looking for a truck...not Craig. And I am not wanting to spend more than 26k-27k. I am using my truck as a trade-in since I know I will not be able sell it as is.

Buy a 12 valve Cummins Carl. All mechanical, no stupid sensors to leave you broke down every week. Ive been on both sides and I like the reliability and way simple and allmost free power gains from the old Cummins.

But if your dead set on a Power Joke, stay the funk away from the Sick liters! (6.0)

Craig was telling me about your truck today, I can't remember if it a 7.3 or a 6.0....but judging by your comment it is a 6.0.

look moneybags, just come off of it and buy an 08 with the new twin turdbo set-up then you will have the ultimate truck. Oh and by-the-way let me know about how many times it leaves you stranded

For that price range you should be just fine Carl. Run a car-fax on it to see how much warranty stuff has been done. I love my Crew cab long bed, but keep in mind that you are not going to park even remotely close to any store.
