View Full Version : Modular Depot Bradenton 2007 Race Report
Just wanted to let you know how we are doing down here in Brandenton at the NMRA 2007 opener. We brought Victor Downs 4V Pure Street Car, Steve Gifford's 2V Factory Stock Car and Derrick Kernodle's Mystic Cobra Modular Muscle Car.
Friday afternoon didn't start out so well with Steve breaking a ring and pinion on a test pass. Luckily we got it swapped out and made the call. That put us in the #1 qualifying spot with a 11.56@116.

I see Tony Bischoff is running Pro50 again - I thought he sold the Cougar and was not going to drive anything this year - glad to see him run!
Lots of local folks running!

I think Tony had to go try his luck at that $25 G.
I herd some rumors of maybe a different driver the rest of the year.

Yup thats Tony's Big Money NMRA race.
Great Job guys! Now bring home the gold. What kinda 60ft is Victor getting?
Best of the weekend was a 1.37 :bigthumb
Unfortunately he was having problems with it breaking up bad in top of 3rd and all of 4th. Finally tracked it down to plug wires. 3rd round he ran a 10.48@129 but unfortunately blew the tires off and only had a 1.42 60'. So if we can put up another 1.37 with the new plug wires and top end charge back, we are definitely in the hunt.
Steve wound up #1 qualifier with 11.55@117.

Tony ran quick enough but got spanked on the tree. Hauf had a 0.005 reaction time. He'll just have to make up for it tomorrow.
GO FARMER GO!! Looks like the field is well covered.:bigthumb

congrats!
I'll post some pics when I get back but here are the final results
Farmer Steve had some issues in the semi's and lost to Jeff Schmell. Didn't find a smoking gun but it was down on power.
Victor had a good race against Jimmy Wilson (#2 qual) in the second round but lost by a few hundreths.
And here is the best of all
Derek Kernodle won Modular Muscle with his daily driven 96 Kenne Bell Cobra. This thing is non intercooled (has water meth), weighs 3600 lbs and has a stock T5. For those that don't know, this is open comp for Modulars. Most of the heavy hitters have purpose built cars for this class. He took out MM vet Al Papito (Victor and Brandon's engine builder) with a .001 light and was great all weekend long. Big congrats go out to Derek. This is a very tough class to win, especially with a car like his.
I think with some testing, Steve will be the man to beat in FS so stay tuned!

Brother Bangerz, thanks for the nice words, I had an awesome time in Bradenton. It all came together and my car ran like a champ. I told Ken the highest anxiety came when I had the bye run, I was thinking If I screw this up I'll never hear the end of it. It was a wkend I'll never forget, nor will my son. As time went on a sense of calm came over me. I was relaxed and confident but NOT overconfident. It helps to have experienced guys like Ken, Brandon, Biff and my buddy Gifford coaching you between races. ( doesn't hurt to have them build your car and tune it also ). It's truly a TEAM and you never feel alone. I'm a lucky guy to have friends like them and the rest of my Stangbangerz buddies.
ps....Dedpedal, I'm running low on sand in the bag you gave me last year.
