Getting ready to upgrade axles and was wondering if I should go with a spool or a trac lok? I will be driving it on the street as well as 1/4 racing.... I guess the biggest question is will the car be crappy on the rad with a spool? And if I do go with a trac lok should I go with just the ford racing one? I want something that can handle a little power also. Let me know! Thanks!

Depends on the power you are making!!

Lets say 350 horse and 500 torque to the wheels?

A spool is the cheapest route for that amount of power and is reliable!! But it is a little anoying sometimes!!:bigthumb

I run the carbon fiber ford racing tracklock. I would not run a spool if it's mainly a street car. If you do get a carbon fiber one do not run synthetic gear oil.

I would run a detroit locker . I had one in my car when i drove it on the street and it worked great and was pretty quiet also .At the track it hooked up just as good as the spool did .

I have a spool in my car and i dont mind it at all. I have never noticed it making a lot of noise. Of course it is better with soft tires. Carrie

I say buy a 31 spline trac lok, rebuild it with some extra clutches and be happy. I paid $75 shipped for my trac lok.

i just bought all of rays shit and put it in! 31 spline axles, strange spool, 3.55 gears, 9" strange ends..... Just drove it for the first time and i love it! Its kindof rough tryin to park or get in a garage but besides that its great! I'll never go back to a trac-lock.

Well it seems like everyone has there own opinion... not quite sure which way im gonna go yet.... can someone explain to me EXACTLY how a c clip works and will it work with stock axles or do they need to be a little longer?

The factory axles use c clips . They are a clip that goes on the inner end of the axle to hold it in place.

C-clips go around the axles inside the differential. They are what holds the axles in the rear end. If you plain on making some power you might not want to go that route! If an axle breaks it WILL roll out from the car. And then your in trouble. The best thing to do is to get some 31 spline axles, spool, And c-clip eliminators. Give Craig a call at Cincy Speed he can hook you up with all that! :bigthumb

I drive mine on the street and track but, when I'm on the streets I'd want it to run like it does at the track. So the spool in my opinion is the best reliable way to get the power to your tires. And with the c-clip eliminators you don't have to worry about a axle coming out! And there not as nearly expensive as a locker type diff.

You have to run c-clip eliminators or 9" bearing ends with a spool. Spool makes parking a little tough in a street car but you will have a hard time breaking it and both your tires will turn.

Thanks for everyones input. Still not sure which way I am going... I've heard people say they notice no difference on the street and people say its a b***h to drive on the street.
