Pulled the motor last weekend and took part of it apart tonight to find blown pistons. Might put in a stroker kit and leave the nitrous off. I am a little worried to spray it again. The head looks ok so far but the chunk of piston is no where to be found yet.

Mine wasn't that bad but I feel your pain:D

what yr is that shortblock? I'd put some good forged pistons in it and spray away.

damn that sucks. best of luck to ya

Ewwww.....

Looks like that piece is somewhere in the exhaust pipe...it sat there on the piston for awhile, before exiting.

It is an 04 with 27,000 miles on it. It was only a 50 shot of juice too. I don't know maybe it was just a weak piston.

Looks like detonation killed that one!!

thats odd for only a 50 shot, there must have been another problem.

Tuned for the nitrous? If not then there is your answer. I saw that you had an SCT chip and if it were optimized to run NA and you sprayed even a 50 shot they you likely went way too lean and the cast pistons don't tolerate detonation.

look for the good in this, now you can go crazy with the engine. and make it what you want it to be.

Cast hyper piston + nitrous = bad things eventually. Put a set of forged pistons in that motor and the 150 shot jets + the right tune.

I agree...throw some forged rods and pistons in there and don't look back. The stroker kit would nice though.

Oh yeah, nitrous. I love it and hate it. Something didn't go right, tune, solenoids, nozzle placement, something. Get with me and I will see if I can figure out what happened before you put another engine in jeopordy! Where you at?

I agree, bore .030,forged pistons, from the money you save on the stroker kit you could swap cams, port heads, bump comp.( w/pistons ), more spray. You also want to make sure you have a big enough fuel pump, to be sure it wont go lean again. A dyno tune with a sct flip chip could get you best of both worlds, motor, motor/spray.

I will tell you right away I know it went lean. I was going to get it tuned for nitrous the next week. It had a 93 octane street tune on it. It was my fault. Learn from your mistakes. I am in Maineville by Kings island.

The only problem I have with rebuilding is the 3000 dollar budget I am on. That is all I have to spend. So as long as I can get even just forged pistons/rods and the stock hp I had, I wont complain.

Yeah the 93 tune was the problem, too much timing. I am adding nitrous to mine hopefully soon. Run an 87 tune with 93 fuel, to take out the advanced timing. Good luck. I want to also add a forged bottom end.

Do you live on a sub-division off of foster mainville?? If so, I have seen your car in the driveway before. It is a good looking stang...Best of luck on the motor fix

Used to drive by it daily before re-routing because of socialville foster.

With that kind of budget I would rebuild the block with the stock crank (the stock GT cast crank is pretty strong) and through in some good H-beam rods and forged pistons. That should get you in well under budget and maybe leave room for something like a set of cams.

Alright, PM me some info and maybe I can get cstreu to come with me and check it out. Yeah, if you ran on the SCT 93 octane tune, you were running way too much timing and perhaps a touch on the lean side because I know they manipulate the fuel pump strategy too on some of the tunes. I think your budget is more than enough with you doing the install and peripheral assembly work. When you get with me remind me to bring my dial bore gauge and mics and we can check your bores out and see if you can get by with keeping it std. I doubt it, but it's worth a shot!
