If you really want a 6 speed, then go for it. Maybe you could drive up with the auto in the car and drive back with the 6 speed in the car. That way you get everything right there.

its your car and i think that you should do with it what you want, but I would go 6 speed. that would be sweet.

This may be a dumb question and a little off subject but why would that guy want to trade from a 6-speed to an auto???
But if it matters, I would much rather have the 6-speed!

I am gonna agree with you Scott, I think you will have a lot more control of your car the way you want to. And as for the worries about a stiff clutch, wouldn't a teflon coated cable and a King Cobra Clutch help out? And i would assume you would go with all the adjustable parts as well.
And if you do this... i guess your car wont be called the Prom Queen anymore.... it'll be called the Drag Queen  although i am not sure how much better that will sound!! LOL!!!
DO IT!!!!
You won't regret it.
There's lots of reasons that a Cobra guy would want an auto tranny...if he's running brackets or open comp/mod muscle, the consistency of an auto would be worth it.
Back in 2003 I drove all the way to Darlington, SC for an IRS, so northern IN isn't half as bad by comparison. ;)

I love the t-56... The only problems that I have heard of are reach issues. Not sure where you like your seat but some people have to sit closer to the wheel to reach 5th. But, you can fix that with an aftermarket shifter
I have a MGW shifter for reach issues and for ease of powershifting at the track.

I'm all about it, I just need to make sure I wont need much more to do this...I don't want the car down this year it's way to important of a year for me/us for obvious reasons.

I would check on what PCM stuff would need changed. I would guess the 6 spd is still in his Cobra. Might now be a bad idea to take your car out to him and drive his to make sure the Trans is fine.

Yeah, what Tim said. Go out and see what you are getting before you commit to anything. The extra trip will be worth it in the long run, and may help you to make up your mind when you see what you are getting.
The computer would be my biggest concern. I would think swapping in a manual trans computer would solve your problems, then just change your tune to work with the manual computer.

Man if i could go back in time when i bought my 3550 and slap myself, and go with the T56 instead i would. Personally even if autos are faster and more consistent, there's nothing more respectable than a fast stick car and a driver who can really throw gears.

I would be all over that Scott.
His flywheel won't work for you and your flexplate won't work for him. You have a 6 bolt crank and his is 8 bolt. Other than that you won't need anything major to make it work. No need for any computer change other than tuning. I would do it. I think you would need a new bezel where the shifter goes.

I'm installing a Viper T56 into my 66 coupe. It will handle my engine and let get a little better mpg. My set up:
@ 2000 rpm
3.70 gears
26" tall tire
6th gear is .50 ratio
-------------------
80 mph
In 6th with 4.11's, I get 75 mph, 4.56's I'd get 67 mph
I know the gearing is different in the Cobra T56, this is a 6 speed calculator already spec'ed for a Viper T56, but you can change the settings:

I enjoy cross country trips in my Mustang.

I know of a car with a very similar transmission and converter to what you have pushing dangerously close to 9's. I don't buy the it's faster to go manual. Personally I think you would be better off to get a manual transmission car.

going from an auto to a 5 speed was the best modification that I did on my 5.0 :bigthumb
